It may look like a painting, but this is actually a photograph taken with a long-exposure motion technique. Taken in Fairport Harbor, Ohio in February 2014. This was my first in a series of motionscape abstract photos.

Inspired by wave photographers in the South Pacific, but lacking the beautiful waves on Lake Erie, Splash is my version. Waves crashing over a log create interesting images when captured at just the right moment.
The evening I took this shot, I was hoping to photograph waves crashing. Lake Erie was smooth as glass. Improvising I made my own splash "sculptures" by throwing rocks in the water and capturing the the splash. It took a lot of practice before I captured this image.
One evening at the Holden Arboretum, the temperature dropped about 15 degrees the hour before sunset. This caused the fog to rise from the butterfly gardens, just as the sun was setting. It made for a magical scene.
